The Iomega Prestige uses a USB 2.0 interface for fast data transfers with universal compatibility. The USB 2.0 interface allows for plug-and-play simplicity with a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps. Additionally, the drive is already preformatted NTFS, so you don't have to waste time formatting to use it. The Prestige features a drive with 7200 RPM spindle speed and an 8MB or higher cache buffer. This provides performance that results in fast access speeds and low latency. Bought two of these for music and photo backup. Backed up one with everything and stuck it in a drawer. Use the other one to listen to music via my Xbox 360. Very easy!
Awesome 1 TB external Hard Drive September 6, 2010

I bought this for my grand-uncle (the brother of my gramma). He asked me to put some music on it before giving the drive to him, so I put my brother's 130 GB music collection in it and his 50GB music collection (that I had backup for him before formatting his box). The speed was awesome, and although I am not entirely sure how much time it took to transfer the data - I left the music moving overnight - the estimated time was pretty short (a few hours). The capacity is self-explaining, and the price-per-gigabyte is pretty damn awesome (a year ago I bought a 500GB HDD for $120 bucks xD). Anyway, the drive is pretty small physically (my 500GB external drive is 1.7x larger and heavier), it comes with everything to use it out of the box, and the design is elegant and nice looking. My brother (who gave me the 128GB music collection) is now looking for this same drive as well... considering he gave me years' worth of collecting music, I might as well buy this external HDD for him too!
I am definitely going to buy the 1.5 TB version for myself... or even the 2TB if the price comes down! I definitely recommend this product.

Shame on Iomega for making such a delicate, unreliable product. It broke on me, and all my music and video files are totally GONE!!! This thing is priced low, but when it comes to electronics, you get what you pay for! If you are a young, college age person who may have to move around a little bit, DO NOT BUY!!! This thing WILL break.

I've been using the Iomega Prestige 1TB external hard drive for about a year as my primary backup resource. I store roughly 200 GB of music and video on this thing, while also using this hard drive to perform weekly system backups of my laptop.
In the year that I've owned this product, it has been 100% reliable. I haven't had any loss of data at all, and this drive has worked perfectly every single time that I've used it. After this experience I will definitely buy an Iomega product again when it comes time to upgrade to a larger drive.

This is my first ever product review on Amazon...and with GOOD reason. This thing failed on me after a year and a month. Of course the warranty only covers a year...when I tried to call support...it's $25 per incident. Seriously? I have to pay EVEN MORE money to get SUPPORT on YOUR own product? I emailed them and they basically told me I'd have to pay for data recovery and buy a new drive if I wanted to get my files off. THIS IS HOW THEY MAKE MONEY. By making hard drives that are setup to fail after a year and then forcing you to turn around, pay for data recovery, and a new hard drive. DO NOT FALL FOR IT. Horrible customer service. HORRIBLE Product. Would not even recommend to my enemies. TRUST IT.
